In many parts of the world, insect borne diseases can be a real serious threat to health and care should be taken to find out the risks before travelling.
Often precautionary preparations like the PYRAMID range are not available locally – or if they are – instructions are not in your native language. It is better to take such items with you.

The primary differences between repellents are those that contain DEET (diethyl –m-toluamide) and those that don’t.

The choice between which to use should be considered carefully. We currently recommend DEET based products for use in areas of high malaria and dengue fever risk. We, and other companies, have developed non-deet based products, but experience shows that they are often less effective in dense, humid forested areas.

Make sure you carefully follow the instructions on the pack.

You should NEVER put insect repellents on the skin protected by clothing. It is important that their effectiveness is contact with air. DEET based products can be particularly harmful if put on the skin under clothing; they get absorbed into the system far more quickly and do not help protect you.
